AT THE FRISCO SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS
This class gives students a taste of what it means to be an actor. Students explore a basic understanding of theatre fundamentals including stage directions and blocking, theatre terminology and some history of theatre. They will also explore improv, scene study and performance as well as learn how to audition for a play.
JUNIOR ACTORS: Ages 5-8 use storytelling, poems, chants and games as springboards to explore characters through structured, creative, and fun activities culminating in short scenes or skits. Through various drama, movement, and stage activities, these classes also promote confidence, self-esteem, and creative expression, while working on skills such as active listening and sharing.
SENIOR ACTORS: Ages 9-up transition to Acting Technique - the actors’ process of creating three dimensional characters and truthful actions for the stage. Classes utilize theater games, guided improvisation activities, and scene/script work to develop characterization and script analysis skills. Classes culminate in a sharing of scenes on stage.
Classes continue to hone the core concepts of acting: from script analysis to team and individual performance skill building. As the acting student matures, they are encouraged to delve more analytically, and more emotionally, into each of those concepts. Students learn to apply interplay and spontaneity, as well as work on transitions and moments of decision.
